This past month in Halifax, two leaders at Fanshawe received recognition for their efforts at the college.

Vaughan Scriver, a Manufacturing Engineering Technology student, won the gold level designation in the Student Leadership Award of Excellence. The other notable is a Fanshawe employee, Marilyn Robinson, a Student Information Systems Designate who received the bronze level recognition in the Staff Award of Excellency category. The Association of Canadian Community Colleges presented the awards at a ceremony attended by Scriver, Robinson and other nominees. The awards are held annually to recognize ongoing effort by community college faculty and students to further the education and maturing process of their peers.

Fanshawe College President Howard Rundle was enthusiastic about the recognition. “It is always exciting when Fanshawe’s people are recognized for their excellence as students and employees. Both Vaughan and Marilyn have made great contributions to the College and we are very proud of them.”

Scriver came to Fanshawe after 30 years in the workforce. A former marine mechanic, he completed the Pre-Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technician and Mechanical Engineering Technology program here at the college. In all three years of enrolment, Scriver was elected class representative to the Fanshawe Student Union by his peers and in 2011 became the student representative to Fanshawe’s Board of Governors.

Robinson is a 29-year employee at the college and is the go-to person for administrative nightmares faced by students, staff and faculty. She describes herself as a “people person” and shows an obvious passion for both Fanshawe community members and the citizens of London. In 2007 she was sponsored by Fanshawe to work with the local United Way in their community-building efforts. Robinson is a Fanshawe grad herself and was the recipient of the 2011 Fanshawe College President’s Distinguished Staff Award.
