It has been a rough weekend for Fanshawe College, but it has been a GREAT week for weather! A few days ago, I was walking outside after work to my car and nearly got drilled with a football and road hockey ball. Multiple students were playing all sorts of sports and soaking up the sun – all for good reason, considering the high temperatures we have been getting.

It’s March 20 as I write this, which makes it the “last day of winter,” even though it may not seem to make any sense with all this sun. Compared to last year’s record-breaking snowfalls, we were lucky this time around and it appears as though spring is here for good. The first few days of nice weather are always exciting; everyone is out jogging, playing and drinking in the sun.

What happens far too often throughout the weeks after the good weather begins is that the same people are no longer outside. Their enthusiasm quickly dwindles to the point where you’d think it’s snow time blues season all over again. It’s amazing how quickly some people take ideal weather for granted. It’s the same people that end up complaining when wintertime rolls around again too quickly. Yes, spring and summer always seem to fly by, but it doesn’t mean people can’t take better advantage of it while it’s around!

It’s just about that time of year again for patios, boozing and tanning. Let’s not forget it’s also time for beach volleyball, tennis and biking! There are simply way too many activities to be had over the warm months. Better weather results in more alternative choices for physical activity. The best part about it is that outdoor activities are always the most fun. There’s less room for excuses to avoid getting some exercise when all you have to do is step out your door and get involved in something, anything and everything.

So get yourself doing the outdoorsy activities you love to do. Make it a habitual routine, leaving no room for regret while making it one of your best sunny seasons yet. Don’t be “that guy” crying come wintertime because he spent the whole summer indoors playing Call of Duty. Now that I’ve said my piece, I expect to see more footballs whizzing by my head when going to my car after work!
