The all-woman band is playing at London's Aeolian Hall Wednesday, March 23, to mark their early February CD release, Let The Rain Fall. Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore make up the vocals and instruments that weave the harmonies together in The Good Lovelies. "Lighthearted songwriting and irresistibly buoyant dispositions" (as mentioned on their website, goodlovelies.com) have made the threesome familiar in the festival circuit, including spots at the Mariposa and Hillside Festivals and the Montreal Jazz Festival. They have also toured with Stuart McLean and the Vinyl Cafe, and have collaborated with Broken Social Scene, Kathleen Edwards and Jill Barber. In 2010, The Good Lovelies won a Juno for Roots/Traditional Album of the Year. Earlier, they won New Emerging Artist at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. This proves that their new album is bound to captivate audiences and win some new London fans as well. "We plan on playing some songs from the old record (the 2009 album, The Good Lovelies), as well as the new one, Let the Rain Fall," said Brooks. "Kerri has some connections from London, from her earlier years at Western, and we have family here as well." She added enthusiastically, "We love to come to London!" Brooks added, commenting on their present tour schedule: "We had a month off in September, and then toured in Ontario and Quebec for March. In April, we are going to Australia and in May we are heading to the United Kingdom." As you can see, a hectic tour schedule leaves plenty of time to gather lonely thoughts or to be without their families. Fortunately, since all three women are best of friends, those thoughts don't come as often, especially as said in their song, Made For Rain. "Let the rain fall, let it soak us to the bone/Nothing will sink our smiles Double-dutch was made for sunny days/when we've been driving such long hours Our legs get restless, so we need to jump and run and laugh with one another And if there is no sun, when we're far from home/Nothing will sink our smiles Life can be uncertain at the best of times ... try to move quickly by the worst of times All things are made better with when you have some friends/I get by with a little help" All things certain: this will be a welcoming show with guaranteed friendliness and banter.
