That's not the only change that will be happening in the city. The mayoral race was tight; early on, incumbent Anne Marie DeCicco-Best led Joe Fontana by just two percentage points. The race went back and forth for most of the evening, with only a few hundred votes separating the two at each count. At the end of the night, DeCicco-Best's decade-long reign as mayor came to an end, as Fontana beat her by just over 2,500 votes. DeCicco-Best was quoted in the London Free Press as having said that she will not run for mayor again. The night was a stark contrast to the previous election in 2006, when DeCicco-Best beat Fontana by 22,000 votes. Many ward elections had exciting races too. Ward 3 – Fanshawe's ward – saw a close race between Joe Swan, Henry Zupanc and Ali Haidar. With just over 350 votes separating them at the end of the night, Swan beat Zupanc with 33.7 per cent of the vote. With incumbent Bernie MacDonald set to retire in November, this could mean big changes for the northeast corner of the city. Election Results Mayor: Joe Fontana Ward 1: Bud Polhill Ward 2: Bill Armstrong Ward 3: Joe Swan Ward 4: Stephen Orser Ward 5: Joni Baechler Ward 6: Nancy Branscombe Ward 7: Matt Brown Ward 8: Paul Hubert Ward 9: Dale Henderson Ward 10: Paul Van Meerbergen Ward 11: Denise Brown Ward 12: Harold Usher Ward 13: Judy Bryant Ward 14: Sandy White
